SUGARHOUSE CASINO MAKES AN IMPACT IN PHILADELPHIA
Philadelphia became the largest U.S. city with a casino on September 23, 2010 with the grand opening of the SugarHouse Casino. The debut of the 108,000-square-foot facility, with 1,600 slot machines and 40 gaming tables, marks the transformation of a prominent site along the Delaware River that once housed the Jack Frost sugar refinery. Visitors to the area, formerly dominated by industrial facilities, now have access to the river and a landscaped riverwalk. Sweeping views of the water and Benjamin Franklin Bridge can also be enjoyed from The Refinery restaurant and patio, one of three dining venues.
Development Management Associates, LLC (DMA) oversaw project design, construction, and accounting on behalf of SugarHouse owners and partnered with Cope Linder Architects and Floss Barber, Inc. on design. The modern exterior features angled facades and green landscaped walls. The interior blends luxury and urban elements, with rich metal hues, an "origami" ceiling, and distinctive industrial art.
DMA previously contributed to the successful development of waterfront casinos in Vicksburg, Mississippi and Pittsburgh and is currently overseeing construction of the Rivers Casino – Des Plaines, in Illinois. Expansion plans for the SugarHouse call for additional gaming, dining, retail, and hotel space.
