Hotel Energy Reduction Consulting

The Ownership group of two of Chicago's finest hotels, the Four Seasons and The Ritz Carlton has asked DMA to lead and coordinate strategic energy reduction efforts in order to meet or exceed corporate carbon emission reduction goals. In this role, DMA reviews all potential energy savings measures and evaluates each proposal for effectiveness of delivered energy savings against the initial costs and payback timeframes. This allows the Owner/Operators to establish integrated priorities for energy reduction across disciplines. Working closely with the Owner, each hotel's Chief Engineer, and various design partners, we have evaluated and implemented pump replacements, thermostat and set back control upgrades in concert with room renovations, kitchen equipment upgrades, complete and prioritized lighting surveys for each property, and have assisted in the planning of future demand control ventilation strategies, VAV box and air handler improvements.

With one point of contact, the Owner can rely on DMA to identify all practical strategies, evaluate them against the Owner's priorities and drive the implementation of appropriate system improvements. Equally important, DMA is able to work with stakeholders to appropriately reject potential strategies that do not deliver effective results given their costs. The goal has not been to save as much energy as possible at any cost, but to cost effectively reduce energy consumption by making smart investments with rapid paybacks.

DMA's familiarity with renewable energy installations has made it possible to quickly evaluate alternate energy strategies (i.e. wind, solar) as an honest broker to determine whether investments in energy alternates is viable at these properties.
